July 23rd- We, as sports fans were all excited that baseball is back and then the rain came to end are opening night game
If that's not so 2020 and how things been going this year, I do not know what else to call it.
However, the long awaited debut of Gerrit Cole, as a New York Yankee, was one to remember. Despite a 1st inning home run surrendered to Adam Eaton, Cole would give up no more hits or runs. He was supported by Giancarlo Stanton, who had three RBI's and belted a 459-foot home run, which gave the Yankees a lead they would never relinquish winning 4-1 in the nation's capital.
Both pitchers threw complete games, with Gerrit Cole earning the victory. It was the first time Cole faced Washington since the World Series last year as a member of the Astros.
For the Nationals, the day or night didn't go well.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, who threw out the ceremonial first pitch, was as bad as Curtis Jackson(50 Cent) pitch when he threw it out for the Mets. Washington also lost Juan Soto, outfielder for the Nats, when he tested positive for the Coronavirus earlier in the day.
Max Schezer, starting pitcher for the Nats, struck out 11 batters, as a positive for the evening. However, he also walked four batters and gave up all four runs in loss.
The second game of this three game series will be on July 25th.
First pitch is at 7:15 P.M
Fun fact about me and Nationals Park
Just a little over a year ago, my family and I visited my little brother in Baltimore for 4th of July holiday weekend. We all attended our very first Nationals game, where Max Scherzer was also the pitcher that day, plus it was an Interleague game too where they were playing the Kansas City Royals. It was a great atmosphere, beautiful day and Washington ended up winning 6-2. Definitely want to go back there when it is safe to do so! Here are a few photos below of my time at Nationals Park!
