AMATEUR BASEBALL: Strong start propels Irish past Lamberton

MILROY – The Milroy Irish amateur baseball team has had a strong start to the season, winning seven of its first nine games. The Lamberton Long Sox have sported an equally as impressive mark, claiming a victory in seven straight games and a perfect record.

So when the two teams met on Wednesday in front of a fully-packed crowd at Irish Yard, they were looking to keep the momentum moving in the right direction. Thanks to a solid first inning of offense, the Irish were able to gain control of the tempo and never look back on their way to a 5-0 victory.

Both Tyler’s from the Irish, Patterson and Maeyaert, pitched beautifully in holding down a Long Sox offense. In the first inning infielder Ben Heichel and catcher Derek Smith for the Irish both had sacrifice flies that enabled the Irish to grab an early lead at 2-0, a lead they would never relinquish. The Long Sox struggled to get anything going and it seemed like the four-run first inning was just too much of a mountain to climb out of.

No final stats were available at press time.

The Milroy Irish improve to 8-2 overall and will host the Bryant Wild Hogs on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. while the Lamberton Long Sox (7-1) will host the Stark Longhorns also on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m.
