Audio/video Michael Jordan Failing to Succeed

My coaches always talked about how you must learn to fail before you can succeed. I personally didn't want to learn how to fail because I didn't want that to become a habit. However, looking at the greatest basketball player ever talk about how much he failed gave me motivation because if he is remembering the failures at the level he's at and turning this into motivation, why can't I?

This image is about my dad. When I think of this, he was born and raised in the city of Chicago. He was 29 at the time and he was in love with Michael Jordan. Jordan was his favorite player as growing up Kobe Bryant was mine. I fell in love with basketball at a very early age and Jordan making these kinds of shots is what drove me to want to emulate that on the court. It also connected me with my dad.

This is important to me because the dunking was something I went out and tried to do on my hoop my mama bought me when I was just three years old. I remember Jordan doing some amazing dunks and being able to fly in the air which was amazing! Watching all these dunks brings back the nostalgia of playing on my hoop outside, dunking the basketball.

Learning about sports was something I cherished. As a kid I was a terrible loser and hated to lose with a passion. This quote is significant because of my drive towards being great in anything I do and my.parents both push me to.male my weaknesses a strength in my life.

Media Garden brief

Since I am a sports journalist, I wanted a lot of my assignments to coincide with what I do. My Media Garden was an assignment that I struggled with to be honest because it was the first time I've had to deal with HTML and coding. I wanted to implement sports moments to represent my garden. I put Michael Jordan "Fail to Succeed" commercial in because of the impact that had on me as a kid. I put Michael Jordan iconic picture of "The Shot" because of what that represents. It represents excitement, growth for a team that was building confidence and the start of what a dynasty looks like. This was a tough project because of my limited resources but I wanted to show you as an audience why I love sports, and what it means to me, which is why I do it for a profession.

Brief Overview

For the five minutes that I have an original recording of in my Work Hard Play Harder podcast! I'm speaking to South Miami Business Journal reporter Cortney Danielle Moore about her day to day operations as a journalist in her job. As I know being a fellow journalist, everyday is different. No two days are the same and you get new games or stories to cover, in Moore cases she is a Hospitality reporter, so she writes about hotels, tourism and restaurants. We also talked about mental health and work-life balance. Those are important in any industry but especially ours because of how reporters feel overwhelmed with situations their in.

Link is here: https://youtu.be/AuMDJXUYNyA?si=1KOJvIqFT8Fe1fo5 Start from 15:00-20:05, it has captions on as well!

Reflection

The interview was amazing with Moore because it wasn't an interview as much as it was a conversation. I hadn't met Moore at all and we are two complete strangers to each other. However, what binds us together is journalism and being journalists in our perspective cities. I do sports and she does hospitality but we both understand the grind and effort it takes to be very good at what we do. I also understand that this self made created platform is something I wanted to do because we as reporters don't get an opportunity to be the ones interviewed. We are always the ones getting the information, which is why when I reached out to Moore, she was more than intrigued about the idea of telling her why and journey into the field of journalism. I was intrigued because I love storytelling and this form is much different than what I normally do. I'm interested in interpersonal relationships and love knowing people stories because they're inspiring to me as a fellow journalist. I also love learning about different types of jobs and being able to be intrigued by some new positions I hear about. What challenges me is doing the research and work for each guest that I have on. Another challenge is their comfort level, everyone is different, and sometimes the guest isn't very comfortable despite I have been upfront and prepped them for the topics that we will be discussing. It challenges me to ask the right questions, and be able to pivot in a conversation when indeed I hear something that is worth to pivot from or to.

The process of having captions wasn't hard at all because I wanted to just make sure I set the settings up perfectly so that it can be ready and understandable. The pros of having these is that sometimes when you have individuals talk, they talk very low and not plain English which makes it difficult to hear. Putting these captions on takes all the confusion away because of how you can keep up with what is going on. The cons of captions is that it can be annoying seeing subtitles or captions all through out the video. Sometimes the captions are incorrect for the words that you're trying to say. Those five minutes that I picked out in my video was key because I wanted to show you what her day in the life of work was and it was important to make sure we were clear with what we were saying. Since my video was a YouTube video, I first looked up how to properly put in captions in my video. Then I proceeded to install YouTube Studio. After a few minutes, I went into the settings of my video changed the language to English and then pushed a button to add captions into this video. After I did that, I proceeded to publish the video on my page and then I was done. That process wasn't hard to do at all and it was something that I learned how to do if I ever need to put a video where it needs to be transcribed or captioned. On this particular project, I wanted to show something different that I also do in my occupation and that is hosting a podcast called Work Hard Play Harder! It is about finding out your why into your profession and getting to know you beyond your occupation! It is a self made podcast that I created and I exhibit it on my YouTube channel drummondchristopher5 and the BS3 Network. I had a conversation with a fellow journalist based out of Miami Cortney Danielle Moore about her why of being in the industry and who she is outside of it. I do these podcasts regularly and get paid for some of the guests I do. It coincides with my job as a reporter, to be able to communicate with other in an interview style format. This was the easiest out of my project because this is what I naturally do.

Reflection

I made three different Facebook posts in posts I thought that would be engaging with our MAPW program with Kennesaw State University. The first post was a meme talking about how English is hard to learn but with five straight words that start with the letter T, it was a meme that was worth putting a post on. The second post was about the highlights of a class could be in the Spring 2025 catalog. It is a highlight because of the fact that it is a special topics class and anytime you have a class like that it is going to generate interest. The class is called writing for Young Adults. I think that will be an impactful class for our writers. The last post was study/writing tips for graduate students that they can implement in their lives.

I chose these pieces to be uplifting, fun, exciting and informative as well. Definitely wanted to choose pieces that I thought would be engaging from my perspective and from an outsider perspective as well. These are posts that I also wouldn't make on a daily basis from a personal standpoint, however I wouldn't mind to read if someone else.

I wanted to surf the web and be able to look for different things, it is hard to go out into the world and just take a picture of something like a meme or a tip and write about it. You have to research and I did that and found these different photos to post on my Facebook. They're a significant part because of how the post can provide information to the graduate student about tips on how to study and advance in their collegiate career. Also be able to provide examples on how being funny/light-hearted helps out in situation, especially grueling semesters like a grad semester.

Social Media Content brief

We were asked to have it coincide with KSU and some other choices as well, I decided to do some memes and photos of different things associated with KSU. The first one was for English majors and writers because I am a writer and this program of Professional Writing may appreciate some humor about writing. I picked that one just to smile and make others smile as well. The second post was about a certain class called Special Topics. For me, I have had two classes of these already in my curriculum and I'm a huge advocate for these. You never know what class it is going to be and you need an elective for your program, so why no branch out, choosing a class that maybe different and fun. That was my mindset and I thoroughly enjoyed learning things in each class. My last post is tips about finishing grad school and this is fitting for me as I'm approaching my final semester of grad school and wanting to be informative to others and have them read this because they may pick up something from it just like I did. My process for this project was to inform, be funny and relatable to the audience. Each picture is with the appropriate post for clarification.

Title: Buckets and Bricks

Executive Summary: This game is a basketball theme game where 48 players, the best of the best compete on a street type playground setting where a team wins and loses. However, they'll be different game modes to play within the game. 3 point shootouts, around the world, free throw competition and 3 on 3 tournament, giving you a chance to match up with and against greats of the game.

The 24 players I'm talking about using will be 12 from the Western Conference of the NBA and 12 from the Eastern Conference of the NBA. This is a mobile game to play with different buttons to hot to operate the game. Buckets stemmed from the term a bucket or points scored in basketball, bricks is missed build up coming from the street terminology, “You building a house with all those bricks.” The street game is where you get the trash talk which will be included in the game and takes us back to the blacktop days.

The 12 players from Western are Magic Johnson, Jason Kidd, Clyde Drexler, Kobe Bryant, Charles Barkley, Tim Duncan, Kevin Durant, David Robinson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Karl Malone, Anthony Davis and Stephen Curry. The Eastern team will consist of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Giannis Antemkoumpo, Joel Embiid, Grant Hill, Patrick Ewing, Reggie Miller, LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Derrick Rose, Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum. They're also a women choice of players as well which will feature the same format as the men. 24 players from the Eastern and Western Conference will be chosen from multiple decades. The 12 West players are Sheryl Swoops, Cynthia Cooper, Lisa Leslie, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Lauren Jackson, Maya Moore, Lindsay Whalen, Jewell Lloyd, Napheesa Collier, Aja Wilson and Kelsey Plum. The 12 East players are Sabrina Ionuescu, Alyssa Thomas, Deanna Nolan, Tameka Catchings, Brianna Stewart, Caitlin Clark, Angel Mccoughtry, Teresa Weatherspoon, Elena Delle Donne, Tina Charles, Deanna Bonner, and Angel Reese.

Genre and Game Mechanics: The genre of the game is sport, basketball competitions. I love this concept of the game because I cover basketball and it is something I'm very knowledgeable of. I also think most of sports fans and some non sports fans would find this interesting because they're playing with the best of the best basketball players, getting a chance to compete in different contests within the game, plus a one player story mode where they get to go against these players by playing them on on one. Each player they beat, you unlocked a bonus play from the 1980s to the present game. That would be a surprise on who but a couple of the names would be Moses Malone, John Stockton, Steve Nash and many more! If you played it on women's mode some of the surprise players you could unlock would be Cheryl Miller, Tina Thompson, Rebecca Lobo, Ticia Pennichero and many more!

The mechanics of the game are fouls will be called but no foul limit in street ball, every basket inside the three points line is one point and three points line for purposes of the game is 2 points. Games go to 15 on story mode except final player, that is 21. They'll be a beginner/intermediate/ advanced mode for the gamer to choose from. On competition of 3 point you'll have one minute to go around the 5 spots on court with 5 balls at each rack and o shoot. For free throw competition you will have 10 seconds max to shoot your free throw or it will automatically do it for you.

Platform: The platform for this game will be a Mobile game (Via XBox, PlayStation) but also can be a PC game as well. The game is adaptable to audiences because of the different modes that comes with the practices of the game. Being able to play basketball on the blacktop is familiar with anyone who grew up watching/playing sports. Another thing that will be adaptable for the audience is the different historic places to play in the game: Rucker Park, NY is a historic place to play, Chicago is a historic place to play, Los Angeles is a historic place to play as well as Seattle. These cities have bred some of the legends that are within the game that you can play with.

Story Summary: The gamer gets to choose one players out of the 24 names that are in the game to select. They'll be other players but they are grayed out because the gamer has to defeat each player to unlock the player. The concept of the game is to get buckets. The more buckets you get, the better your chances increases to move on and up levels. The more levels you move up, the more players you unlock in which you can substitute for player you're playing with. However, once you lose twice at any level, you must start from the beginning. They're are 24 levels and at the very top is the two MJs: Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan. If you're able to beat the G.O.A.T you have conquered the game and unlocked all the mystery players in which you can make up several different combinations of teams to play on the blacktop with. Each level you go, gets harder and harder to defeat because of the quality of player. The other modes are 3 point shootouts which the max players you can have is five players. All five will participate in the first round of shootout only to which the top two scorers will advance. They will battle it out for a winner. With the free throw competition it will follow the same format, you will have best out of ten with five players being the max to compete. The top two will go on to the next round and compete to win.

Major Locations: The major locations that are involved in the game are based off the history of these places playing street ball. New York Rucker Park is the most prestigious place to play. Anyone who is a famous ballplayer has played on this court, so of course that has to be in the game. The same with Los Angeles with West Coast basketball. It is the mecca of West Coast basketball like Rucker is for East Coast. Seattle is another famous place for street ball because of the Pro-Am circuits that bring out the best basketball players in the country. Indiana is another place that breathes basketball in the Midwest, I would place a location out there as well as Chicago too. These would be my major Locations but other locations I would have in the game is Miami, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Houston, and lastly Las Vegas. However, I would love to see some “different locations” as well unlocked and depending on how well you do in the games of competing plus the mode that you play on I would have five other bonus locations to unlock. These five locations would be Sacramento, Phoenix, Charlotte, New Jersey and Boise.

Protagonist: They'll be only two different players to start with before you add real NBA players on your team. They'll be a male version and a female version. With either pick, you get to choose three attributes you want your player to have ( shooting. Passing, dunking, blocking, stealing, etc .) the rest of the attributes that you didn't choose will remain average at best. In this case, the protagonist would be one of these two characters and being able to beat the game by defeating all of these great players getting more buckets than bricks.

Game Beginnings: The game will start out with the first player that you face, it is almost like how Mortal Kombat is, once you defeat that individual you move to the next. The where you play is a mystery because it will shuffle between the cities except when you get to the last one which is MJ. That will be the championship and that will be played at Rucker Park Everytime, where MJ (Michael Jordan was born), so you will know your opponents order upon agreeing to take on the story mode challenge. The twist is if you choose female player, you will face 24 women in the game. Names like Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoops, Sue Bird, Tamika Cathings, Caitlin Clark, Maya Moore, Aja Wilson just to name a few before you get to G.O.A.T Diana Taurasi.

I've already went over the structure and different modes of how one could beat or conquer the game. Also the joys of continuously playing it mixing and matching different lineups from men and women plus even coed teams. This game is fun and interactive, plus competitive to see if you can get more buckets than bricks. Also to see what teams mesh together and what teams don't. I wanted to create a game where you can also play on different systems because everyone doesn't like or isn't able to play on the systems like a PlayStation or Xbox. I want this game to be compatible with a PC as well and be able to have the same kind of fun/enjoyment of playing it.
