WABASSO — The Marshall amateur baseball team has been on a tough skid recently, losing five straight games after their season-opening win against Granite Falls on May 20. Looking to get back on track, Marshall took on Wabasso and used a strong start to propel itself to a 13-1 victory on Wednesday.

The A’s jumped out on Wabasso for an early one-run lead and didn’t look back the entire game. Marshall native and outfielder for the A’s Zach Olsen ripped a line drive shot down the right-field line and the Wabasso defender dove to try to catch it but it dropped and allowed Olsen to score a inside-the-park grand slam home run, pushing the lead to 5-0 after two and a half innings. Marshall then pushed its lead to 7-0 after seven before extending it to 10-0 and ultimately the 13-1 final.

Marshall native Mitchell Bouwman started for the A’s and would throw five scoreless innings.

This is the second victory of the season for the A’s and Bouwman’s second win of the season as well. Marshall native and outfielder Connor Neubeck had a two RBI double in the game and outfielder Joe Rock also had two RBIs in the ballgame.

No final stats were available at press time.

Marshall will face Granite Falls at home on Sunday at 5 p.m. while Wabasso will face Sacred Heart at home on Sunday at 5 p.m.
