AMATEUR BASEBALL: Marshall takes out Granite Falls, 15-5

MARSHALL –With it being Father’s Day weekend, it was only right that Kelly Loft got to play with his son Dillon for the Marshall amateur baseball team. Not only did they both play, but both had a huge part in closing out a convincing 15-5 victory in seven innings over the Granite Falls Kilowatts on Sunday at Legion Field.

Sunday’s game was a special day and moment for the Lofts, and designated hitter Kelly Loft explained why.

“It was fun, we’re a little short-handed but it was really cool to come out here and play with my son on the same team,” Kelly Loft said. “We also both got a hit in the same inning which is really cool and something that I’ll always remember.”

The A’s used an eight-run fourth inning to break a close game wide open and led 12-2 after four innings. Dillon, who actually had the final hit to close out the game, had three hits with two RBI while third baseman AJ Toulouse also had three hits with two RBIs. Teammates Andrew Cowden had a game-high four hits in the ballgame and Mitchell Bouwman nabbed his first hit of the season as well. For the Kilowatts, it was an uphill climb throughout the game and missed opportunities told the story about the night for them. Manager of the Kilowatts Mike Richter spoke on the team’s loss.

“We can’t give extra outs to teams in this league because it will come back to burn you,” Richter said. “We didn’t get many hits, they hit the ball well and put it in play, we just made too many errors to win.”

Everyone that entered into the game for the A’s registered a hit in the contest. Acting manager Zach Olsen spoke about the team’s victory.

“Guys came ready to play and we had some guys step up because we do have some guys out,” Olsen added. “Makes it fun and easy to play when that happens.”
