MILROY — With a win streak that has now reached double digits in their back pockets, the Milroy Irish amateur baseball team looked to continue their winning ways with a doubleheader matchup against Ruthton and Hadley. Thanks to a strong offensive outing, the Irish pushed their streak to 12 games with a 12-8 victory against Ruthton and a 7-2 win against Hadley both in seven innings on Sunday at Irish Yard.

Against Ruthton, the Irish scored nine runs in the first two innings, including outfielder Derek Smith hitting a first inning home run to set the tone. Smith would go on to have four hits with four RBIs. Outside of the first inning though, the Royals matched the Irish run for run, but faced a four-run deficit after the first inning and it was just too difficult to overcome.

Royals second baseman Cody Wichmann had multiple RBIs and hits in the loss and outfielder Walker Kor also had multiple hits and RBIs for the Royals. Ruthton manager Eric Wiering was encouraged and spoke on the team’s performance in the game.

“I think we got pretty good today, our pitchers threw strikes but they can hit the ball really good and that’s what it comes down to,” Wiering said. “Defensively we played good and it was nice to see our bats come through. The difference in the game were the errors we had, give them momentum and it kills our momentum. I think us having a week off to relax before we play next Sunday is good for us as well.”

Tyler Peterson for the Irish had three hits including two doubles with an RBI. Teammates Moses Dolan and Jared Tschetter both had two hits and drove in a run. Milroy Irish manager Anthony Dolan talked about the team’s performance and their incredible winning streak.

“Today was a little different mix-up due to the player personnel that we had today but that’s the benefit of having a big squad and guys stepped up did a great job,” Dolan said. “The win streak has been fun, the bats have been rolling and we just want to stay focused, keep it going.”

The Milroy Irish would go on to defeat the Hadley Buttermakers in their second game of the day 7-2 and now have an overall record of 18-2. The Irish conclude their homestand by hosting Luverne on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Irish Yard. The Ruthton Royals (4-9) will host the Fox Lake Foxes next Sunday at 2 p.m.
