MARSHALL — After seeing its recent hot play get doused against Bird Island on Friday, the Marshall amateur baseball team looked to bounce back against Sacred Heart Wednesday. Both teams struggled by leaving multiple runners on base but thanks to some solid pitching from Mitchell Bouwman and timely hitting by Coby Brownlee – who broke a tied score in the bottom of the sixth with a base hit straight away to center – Marshall was able to hold on and earn a 3-1 victory at Legion Field.
After two first inning doubles by the Saints allowed them to grab an early lead, they would only manage three more hits for the rest of the game. Bouwman struck out 11 and pitched the entire game only allowing one run. Designated hitter for the A’s Zach Olson had two hits and had one of the two RBIs in the ballgame for Marshall. Outfielder Connor Neubeck would also lead the team in hits with two as well.
The Saints also accompanied the A’s with two costly errors which led for the inning to continue and for them to lose the lead. Marshall’s Peyton Grant would bloop a single in right field in the eighth inning scoring Charlie Jacobson and extend the lead to 3-1, which would be the final score.
Marshall has won five of its last seven games and now have an overall record of (6-7), heading into their next contest which is on Friday night. They play host to the Luverne Redbirds and it is Hall of Fame night, where the A’s will be honoring 2022 inductee Pat Bushard prior to the contest.
