AMATEUR BASEBALL: Ruthton falls to Adrian, 8-0
Chris Drummond
RUTHTON — The Ruthton amateur baseball team looked to bounce back from a tough offensive outing against Luverne during their matchup against Adrian on Saturday. Dealing with a depleted roster due to multiple injuries, the Royals only were able to collect three hits in the game on their way to an 8-0 loss.
Adrian jumped on Ruthton early and had them down by five runs in the first two innings. The errors committed in the field gave Adrian extra outs in which it capitalized off of and were able to score a lot of runs early in the game. Meanwhile, the bats for the Royals were cold and just couldn’t get going throughout the game. Isaac Dagel and Ryan Bridgewater for the Royals each had a hit in the loss.
Ruthton acting manager Brian Baartman, who had 1 2/3 scoreless innings on the mound and struck out three, also spoke on the team’s performance.
“I thought we got off to a rough start,” Baartman said “Our hitting has been cold, we only had one hit down in Luverne and here we only had three hits. We’ve also got to be able to help our pitchers out by getting the easy outs in the field. We have to eliminate the errors because we’re low on pitching due to injuries. We have to hit the ball and score runs, bottom line.”
