AMATEUR BASEBALL: Wienhoff no-hitter propels Milroy Irish to 10-0 victory over Adrian

MILROY — It was only his second start in a Milroy Irish uniform, but Hunter Wienhoff made it a memorable outing.
Wienhoff was in command the entire game against Adrian on Wednesday, tossing a no-hitter in a 10-0 victory in seven innings.
Wienhoff was able to get a lot of run protection from the Irish offense in the first inning. Starting catcher Derek Smith ripped a double into left-center field scoring two and put the Irish on the board first. The very next batter, first baseman Brady Lanoue, smacked a home run over right field that gave Milroy a quick 4-0 lead and it led 5-0 after the first inning and never looked back. That is all Wienhoff would need.
Wienhoff struck out 10 while not many Adrian at-bats left the infield the entire game. Tyler Patterson for the Irish had a game-high three hits in the ballgame while Smith finished with two hits and three RBIs. Milroy Irish manager Anthony Dolan elaborated on the team’s performance in the game.
“Starting out with five runs in the first inning really sets the tone for the game,” Dolan said. “It takes the pressure off when we can score like that early, it was huge for us.”
Dolan also stated that Wienhoff was looking good the entire game, throwing strikes and just pitched an incredible game.
The Milroy Irish (22-3) have won four of their last five games and will travel next to play two games on Sunday to conclude their regular season. First up will be Mountain Lake at 1 p.m and then they will play Fairmont at 5 p.m.
