Chris Drummond
HADLEY — After taking an early lead in their best-of-three series on Wednesday, the Hadley amateur baseball team looked to advance against Mountain Lake over the weekend. Hadley’s offense left no doubt at the plate, breaking out the bats en route to a 26-1 victory in seven innings on Saturday.
After a scoreless first inning for both teams, the Buttermakers would have back-to-back innings of 10 runs or more, scoring 10 in the second inning and 13 runs in the third inning, putting the game out of reach.
There were four different Hadley players that recorded four hits in the ballgame: Trent Carlson, who also had a team-high six RBIs, Abe Paulzine, Kyler Deacon and Danny Blankenship. Paulzine would have five RBIs in the game and two of his hits were doubles. Starting pitcher for the Buttermakers Jacob VanDam pitched a solid five innings where he allowed no runs and struck out eight batters in the ballgame.
With the win, Hadley completes the sweep and moves on in the Region 13C playoffs where the opponent, day and time of their series is still to be determined.
