Hadley falls to Fairmont in Game 1 Chris Drummond


FAIRMONT — The Hadley Buttermakers and the Fairmont Martins began a best-of-three series in the Region 13C playoff tournament to decide who will be the region’s third team in the Class C Tournament.

The Martins put up 16 runs in the ballgame to earn a Game 1 victory over the Buttermakers, 16-2 in seven innings.

The Martins started the game red-hot in the first inning, scoring four runs and highlighted by a two-run home run.

The Buttermakers bats would go cold for the first five innings as they couldn’t score any runs.

Fairmont continued to put the pressure on and scored five more runs in the top of the fifth inning to extended their lead to 9-0 through five innings.

The top of the fifth inning is where Hadley would get on the board by scoring two runs.

The game would come to a close after a huge inning by the Martins scoring seven runs in thesixth inning.

Hadley is coming off of playing almost six hours of baseball Monday night to conclude that series versus the Milroy Irish. The Buttermakers will look to rest up for Saturday’s game, with a chance to even up the series.

Game 2 will be in Hadley on Saturday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
