Tigers make quick work of Watertown in 3-0 win

MARSHALL — The Marshall Tigers volleyball team welcomed the Watertown Arrows for some Tuesday evening volleyball action, winning without dropping a set 25-12, 25-17, and 25-14. The Tigers are back in action next Tuesday night as they travel to Luverne.

In the first set the Tigers came out dominant and scored the first 12 out of 13 points in the match cruising to a first set victory over the Arrows 25-12 with senior Leah Jones leading the way with multiple kills in the first set. The second set early on was a back and forth contest until the Tigers went on an 8-2 run giving them some distance from the Arrows behind Lauren Wherry and Jones sparking them to win set two, 25-17.

The third set was more of the same as the continuous subbing kept the Tigers fresh and they continued to dominate their opponent. The Tigers would finish off the Arrows in straight sets, winning the third 25-14. Randi Wendorff also contributed heavily in today’s victory. Jones led the team in kills with 16 and had nine digs. Wherry had 36 assists, six aces in serve and finished with seven digs as well. Head coach of the Tigers Dan Westby commented on his team’s performance.

“We felt like our kids found a good rhythm offensively early and made it difficult for them,” Westby said. “We let them creep back into the second and third set because of our passing and serving errors, but aside from that, played a pretty clean game tonight.”

Westby added that communication was also something that they need to work on as well, stated that he felt like the team wasn’t talking enough.
