LAMBERTON – Being separated 22 miles from each other, the Westbrook- Walnut Grove Chargers battled against the Red Rock Central Falcons on Tuesday evening with the Chargers coming out victorious in four sets 3-1.

In the first set, it was a back and forth contest with no lead being bigger than five. The Falcons started out strong but the Chargers–led by sophomore Natalie

Wahl and freshman Carlie Ross– tracked them down and overtook the Falcons in winning the first set 25-23. Both Wahl and Ross had six kills apiece in the set.

The second set started out hot again for the Falcons and this time they were able to sustain it. Although both teams had long rallies and multiple lead changes, the second set would be won by the Falcons 27-25, tying up the match at one apiece.

However, the Chargers would respond with their best set of the match, dominating it and having again Wahl and Ross impact the set with kills. The Chargers won 25-16, taking a 2-1 lead. The fourth set saw the Falcons again take the lead in the set, just like each set prior, but couldn’t sustain it and lost a close set 25-22, giving WWG the match and their third win of the season. Meghann Westover, head coach of the Chargers spoke on her team performance and grit showed tonight.

“I think we need to work on our servicing a little bit,” Westover said. “We need to work on the passing to more of our front row hitters but our left side was dominant tonight and I’m really proud of them. We work in practice on grit and coming back from behind. We’re used to being behind and we’re okay with that.”

Head coaches of the Red Rock Central Falcons Brittni Baune and Cierra Fast both spoke on the loss tonight and how to stay positive through this tough stretch.“I feel like we showed a lot of improvements and we are trying to focused on the positive,” Fast said.Baune spoke on losing leads in every set of the match “It is something that we have been working on and we’ve been dealing with a lot of injuries,” Baune added. ” It is hard to build that chemistry we need and we are trying people at new positions, but it is there and we got it, we just have to put it together.”WWG (3-1) play next Thursday traveling to Hills Beaver Creek and RRC (0-5) will be in a tournament this upcoming Saturday hosted by Jackson County Central.
