SLAYTON- The Murray County Central Rebels football team dominated their first two opponents of the season, that was not the case in Friday’s tilt with the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers. The Panthers won easily 25-8, scoring the last 25 points of the game.
The Panthers would exact revenge after dropping both contests last year to the Rebels.
The Rebels would strike early, behind three third conversions passes from starting Rebels quarterback Abe Paulzine to Christian Tentinger. The drive would finish with a Carter Benda rushing touchdown where he broke it outside and outran defenders to the end zone. The Rebels went for a two point conversion and made it an 8-0 lead early in the first quarter. However, it would come at a lost. Benda would leave the game with an apparent elbow injury and would not return.
Then it would be all Panthers
Starting quarterback Trevor Smith through a bomb to Blake Kruger, which went for a touchdown getting separation off the line from that was a touchdown. The Panthers failed on the two point conversion. After the Rebels offense stalled, Smith took the Panthers down the field and threw a touchdown pass to Alexander Schuh to give the Panthers the lead for good.
TMB defense didn’t give up another point and would limit the the Rebels to 28 yards rushing and forced two turnovers in the ballgame. Smith would finish with 252 yards and two touchdowns cruising to a victory on the road.
TMB (2-1) will now host Springfield next Friday evening and MCC also 2-1 will now travel to St. James on Friday evening as well.
