PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Strong first half carries LQPV past MCC, 60- Chris Drummond cdrummond@marshallindependent.com MARSHALL — The Murray County Central girls basketball team knew things were going to be challenging during their matchup against Lac qui Parle Valley on Saturday. The Eagles quickly built a strong first-half lead and didn’t look back, earning a 60-18 victory at the R/A Facility on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University.

The Rebels were outscored in the opening half 44-10. MCC head coach Lucas Freeman assessed his team’s performance of the game. “Lac Qui Parle Valley is a good basketball team and they’re probably a number two seed,” Freeman said. “I think it’s great for us to play good competition heading towards the playoffs and gain that experience.” Rebels guards Thea Schneider and Jayda Hellewell led their team in scoring with four points each. Eagles forward Tori Burgarden had a game-high 17 points.
