MARSHALL — After falling to them earlier in the season, the No. 3N Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team was able to exact revenge against the No. 2N Lakeview Lakers, earning a 62-49 victory in the Section 3A tournament on Thursday inside the R/A Facility at Southwest Minnesota State University.

DB came out and stifled the Lakers in the opening half, holding them to nine points and building itself an 18-point lead. In the second half DB was able to keep the Lakers at bay and never let the lead get below 13, as that would be the final margin of the contest.

DB junior guard Keegon Wicht led the team in scoring with a game-high 22 points and a team-highs in assists with four and steals (4). Teammate Brayson Boike finished with a double-double netting 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. DB head coach Cory Larson talked about his team’s performance in the win.

“To come out and not expect to hold a great team like Lakeview to nine points in the first half, great effort by our guys,” Larson said. “We had some turnovers and decision-making that could have been better but we will live with that. Certainly glad we had a comfortable lead in the last four minutes.”

Lakeview head coach Jared Keaveny praised his team’s performance despite the loss.

“I thought Dawson kept us off balance by playing great defense in the first half,” Keaveny said. “We just couldn’t get a bucket or any kind of offensive rhythm. Credit to them for what they’re doing, but my kids fought hard and I’m proud of them.”

DB will play against the No. 1 seed the Central Minnesota Christian Bluejays in the semifinals inside the R/A Facility on Saturday evening at 8 p.m.
