Synopsis of the ‘Work Hard, Play Harder’ podcast Mike Foley episode
Chris Drummond
Earlier this week, I had my debut podcast episode with a guest from Marshall and I couldn’t have had a better one to start. I had the chance to interview Marshall’s own Michael Foley who is the head coach of the Marshall 12U Tigers girls hockey team on my podcast “Work Hard, Play Harder”. The podcast is called “Work Hard, Play Harder” because that’s how I like to live my life. It is about finding out your why into sports, journalism, media or whatever profession you may pursue and getting to know you beyond your occupation. The podcast is informative about what you do but also asks fun questions about you as well. Building connections and being able to be relatable is an important aspect of my podcast as well.

In this podcast episode we touch base on the origins of Foley’s coaching and his why of wanting to. Also included are some fun get to know you questions and we talked about his choice of college, which was Minnesota State University, Mankato. His passion for the game of hockey is undeniable and Foley has been coaching off and on for 28 years, including 21 consecutive. Foley’s team will be heading to the 12U B state tournament in Virginia, Minn. this weekend after winning three games in the 12U B South Region tournament hosted by the Red Baron Arena and Expo. The Tigers team is comprised of 12 players (Brianna Foley, Brielle Felton Krog, Elsie Deutz, Peyton DeMuth, Chevi Nyhammer Atwell, Sofia Boeck, Elizabeth Garvey, McKenzie Sieve, Riley Anderson, Leah Christianson, Lily Stelter, Macie Mahlberg) and led by captains Brooklyn Mauch, Ava Kolander, and Avery Kestloot.
I had a question on this episode called “This or That” where two choices were thrown out and you would have to choose one or the other. Lastly, we touched up on how interested youth hockey players would sign up on a team, when to sign up and what kind of benefits you gain from signing up. I love getting to know people in the community who are making an impact on people’s lives and doing so out of the love they have for others.
