SPRING SPORTS PREVIEW: Wabasso baseball
CHRIS DRUMMOND cdrummond@marshallindependent.com
WABASSO — The Wabasso baseball team is coming off a season where they were 15-7, earned a runner-up finish in the Tomahawk Conference and landed the number one seed in the South bracket for the Section 3A tournament before going 2-2 in the postseason. This will be head coach Chad Olson’s 20th season at the helm of the Rabbits.
The Rabbits return three people from last year’s team in pitcher/shortstop Adryen Tietz, pitcher/outfielder/catcher Noah Anderson and first baseman/pitcher Joe Liebl. The Rabbits will have five seniors on the team with the experience serving as a strength, according to Olson.
“We have three pitchers that return with varsity experience,” Olson said. Olson also elaborated on what he would like to see as an area of improvement on the team.
“Our offense will be an area that we hope to improve as the season progresses,” he said.
The Rabbits opened their season with a trio of losses, falling to New Ulm Cathedral 7-0 and 7-1 in a doubleheader on April 11 and 4-0 to Sleepy Eye on Tuesday.
