It was all tied up through five innings of work for both starting pitchers and then the sixth inning happened.

Madison Bumgarner, who is newly acquired from the Giants in free agency, was the starting pitcher for Arizona, where on his last pitch of the night gave up a double to Eric Hosmer that would clear the bases and give the Padres a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning.

Chris Paddock, who started as the pitcher for San Diego, also went six innings but surrendered no runs in his outing to secure the win.

After a Cole Calhoun home run in the following inning for the Diamondbacks trim the lead to 3-1, Hosmer would come up again in the very next inning to bat for the Padres and hit another bases clearing double, this time to the opposite field, giving San Diego a 7-1 lead.

At tht point in the game, Hosmer had more Rbi's (6) than the Diamondbacks team had hits (5) and he did this in consecutive innings.

San Diego would go on to win by the final score of 7-2 in home opener at Petco Park.

The second game of this four game set will resume tonight

First pitch is at 9:10 PM (Eastern Time)

Fun fact about me growing up in San Diego: The first and last time I ever tried to steal

I remember like it was yesterday, I was 10 years old going into the inconvenience store to pick up some snacks for myself. I had seen my friends steal things out of the successfully and thought I was bad ass enough to do it myself. I had money also in my pocket at the time, but just wasn't thinking at all and didn't think I would be caught. Little did I know, I was caught red handed and the clerk/store owner gave me two options. He said " I could call the cops or I can call your dad." At the time, we always went to that store and literally lived around the corner, so he knew my dad and entire family well. I definitely din't want any part of jail, so I decided to take the latter. My father arrived at the store and that's where the beat down began. It continued when we arrived back to the house and to this day it is the hardest I ever been hit. However, it taught me a valuable lesson that day, and that is to be yourself. Don't emulate others and don't steal things that don't belong to you. Years later and I have never walked in a store since that I wasn't going to buy something. I definitely thank my Dad for that lesson learned to this day.
