MILROY-- The Milroy Irish dropped their second consecutive game at home losing to the Brookings Cubs 3-2 on Wednesday evening. It was the Irish's fifth loss of the season and third loss at home.
After a scoreless first inning, the Milroy Irish got on board with back to back walks and on a wild pitch by the Brookings Cubs, the Irish was able to score their first run of the game and lead 1-0 after two.
Although the Cubs had two runners on in the ensuing inning, nothing came of it as starting pitcher for Milroy Tyler Maeyaert got out of trouble and kept Brookings scoreless.
Dominic Dolan for the Irish led off the 3rd inning with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Derek Smith to increased the lead of the Irish to 2-0 after three innings.
That's when Maeyaert started to struggle.
He walked four consecutive batters giving a run to Brookings and then proceeded to hit the fifth batter in the inning tying up the ballgame at two all. The Irish was able to get the final two outs of the inning to keep the score tied despite the Cubs loading up the bases.
The game would not change score until the top of the 7th inning, where Brookings would get three singles in the inning scoring another run and taking the lead after being spotting the Irish two runs. In the bottom of the 8th, after getting their first out, Smith for the Irish reached on an infield single only to be thrown out on the Base paths in-between pitches. Andrew Wallen would strike out to end the 8th, with Milroy down 3-2 heading into the 9th.
That would be the final score of the night as the Irish would fall to the Cubs 3-2. Manager/player for Milroy Anthony Dolan spoke about the team's loss.
"I was happy with how we battled against a very good Brookings team," Anthony Dolan said.
"1-9 They're good college players. Our pitchers did very well when attacking the zone. Our bats remained stagnate for the second straight game unfortunately. Silver lining is that we were putting it in play and not striking out."
The Irish are in the midst of their five game home stand and will host next the Worthington Cubs Friday evening.
