Potential Creekview victory delayed by power outage

CANTON -- Only a power outage could stop Creekview from capping a dominant performance over Riverwood on Friday.

With a little over 7 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Grizzly Den went dark.

After a 30-minute delay, Creekview athletic director Chuck Wilson made the announcement the game would be suspended. The game will resume from the point of its suspension Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Before the game ground to a sudden halt, the Grizzlies used a ball-control offense and dominant defense to lead them to a 19-0 lead.

Creekview scored on its first possession of the game capping off seven-play, 58-yard drive when running back Cole Hasty scored from 2 yards out on his only carry of the game for an early 7-0 lead.

On the ensuing possession, Riverwood marched down the field, only to have the drive in a fumble, which Creekview recovered at the 41-yard line. Soon after, Andy Moncada extended the lead with a 32-yard field goal to make it 10-0.

The score remained that way for the rest of the first half.

Running back Tyler Stevens scored on a 44-yard run that broke the game open at 17-0 heading into the fourth quarter. Stevens finished with 78 yards for the night.

Quarterback Brody Rhodes finished 10-of-24 for 73 yards and added 68 on the ground.

Creekview tacked on two more points by blocking a punt into the back of the Riverwood end zone for safety.

Riverwood had only 182 yards of total offense when the game was stopped, including just 60 in the first half.
