SPRING SPORTS PREVIEW: Lakeview golfCHRIS DRUMMOND cdrummond@marshallindependent.com
COTTONWOOD — The Lakeview Lakers boys golf team had a strong season last year, finishing second overall in the Camden Conference and placing third in the Section 5A tournament.
The Lakers will move sections from 5A to 3A this year, but their experience will remain the same, with seniors Cole Arends, Parker Geistfeld, Brock Bossuyt, Trey Helmke and Travis Vold leading the way. Junior Ethan Schwankl and freshmen Carson Boe and Lane Arends will also make a key impact, with Boe competing in the state meet last year.
Andy Dallmann, who has over a decade of experience coaching and is in his second year with the Lakers, spoke on his high expectations for his team this upcoming season.
“Our expectations are high this year and the amount of returning experience only elevates what we expect from ourselves,” Dallmann said. “The Camden Conference looks to be competitive, ultimately our goal is to be playing our best golf at the end of the year and see where that leads us.”
In addition to their experience, Dallman said a strength for them will be the healthy competition they see in practice, especially after only graduating one senior from last year’s team.
“I would love to see competition in practice,” Dallmann said. “There are only six spots available and with many underclassmen, there is plenty of competition for those last few spots. I fully expect to see some competitiveness in practice.”
Dallmann elaborated on the area of improvement.
“The mental approach,” Dallmann said. “How you approach every shot, each hole, each round will be the difference at the end of the day.”
On the girls side, Lakeview started the season with no sophomores, juniors or seniors and were competing as a junior varsity team as of April 6.
